1961 Ministry of Transport announced it was to introduce push button crossings called Panda Crossings

These were to appear at Zebra crossings and would appear in April 1962. Confusion about the sequences of lights and flashing was not that smooth as well as technical problems. 1969 saw the introduction of a Pelican crossing push button and flashing lights, which seemed more easy to follow. The 90s saw those being replaced by Puffing crossings that also uses sensor detection of predestrians and traffic.
