28th April 1923 Wembley opens the Cathedral of Football on this day

1923 The Cathedral of Football was opened, Wembley Stadium known as the Empire Stadium with its twin towers was opened by King George the V. Also known at the start as the British Empire Exhibition Stadium built by Sir Robert McAlpine for the Exhibition of the same name.

Although the film below is silent it is real live footage, it shows the volume of people attending and trying to get in, the twin towers with Union Jack,  arial shots, it shows the crowd climbing over the walls to get in and gives statistics .
