The very first edition of the News of The World newspaper was published on the 1st October 1843
The News of the World Newspaper ran for 168 years from 1843 to 2011. At its peak, it was the highest selling English language Newspaper in the world. In terms of the brand and circulation is was the king of the Sunday tabloids
The paper started life as a broadsheet changing ownership 2 times before it was sold to the final owners in the early 1980’s News International / News Corp International. Under News Corp, the paper changed to a Tabloid format where the transformation under Ruper Murdoch was dramatic.
The paper was known for its celebrity-based scoops and also some quite pivotal investigative expose pieces.
The paper closed for good in 2011 as a result of the phone-hacking scandal which began to take hold in 2007.
